Administration

Moderation and announcements

Assign staff, handle reports and publish targeted notices.

Staff scope#

Use permissions and forum-editor moderator assignments to give staff access to the intended spaces. Test with a staff account; a full administrator has broader access and cannot demonstrate scoped behavior.

Discussion and post moderation#

Use the moderation area (/moderation) and authorized discussion controls to review reports and manage threads/posts. Select the correct record and reason before acting. Moving a discussion can change who sees it; inspect the destination's access. Pinning and locking serve different purposes: a pinned topic stays prominent, while locking restricts replies.

Deleted threads/posts use soft deletion. Restoring a discussion does not undo separately deleted posts. Keep an operational backup before large administrative changes and record consequential actions through the available audit/activity interface.

Private-message reports#

Reports contain bounded snapshots of the reporting viewer's visible history. Staff with the dedicated global report-review permission can review those reports; it does not grant participant status or arbitrary inbox access. Handle report material as private information. See messaging reference.

Community announcements#

The bundled Announcements plugin can display multiple enabled notices across the community or at a selected category/forum and its descendants. Open its settings under Administration → Plugins. Write a clear title/message and choose placement deliberately. Restricted-space notices remain visibility-scoped.

Signed-in dismissals apply to the current notice title, message and placement; changing those can make the notice visible again. Guest dismissals last for the current page. Deleting a targeted space deletes its notices rather than making them global. The announcement.manage capability controls announcement management; installing a plugin is separate from granting its operational permissions.
