Features

Everything a forum needs. Nothing it doesn't.

VoltexaHub covers the whole life of a community: the conversations members have, the controls moderators reach for, and the setup work that happens before anyone signs up.

Discussions people come back to

Forums organised into categories, with discussions that keep their history, their links and their context.

  • Markdown editor with live preview, quotes, code and image attachments
  • Unread tracking so members jump straight to the first new reply
  • Watched discussions with in-app notifications and optional email
  • Polls attached to a discussion, with results shown as people vote
  • Upvotes, downvotes and reputation, reversible and scoped to what each member can see
  • Full-text search that never reveals a forum a member can't open
  • Pinned and locked discussions, and a Latest view across every forum
The Latest discussions view in light mode, listing recent threads across the Darkskies forums with reply counts and unread markers.

Profiles with a voice

Avatars, headlines, locations, signatures and a profile page that shows a member's recent discussions and reputation. Light and dark mode follow each reader's choice.

Built for phones too

Every member page works on a small screen, with a menu, search and reply controls sized for thumbs.

Private and group messages

Conversations between two people or a small group, updating as replies arrive. Group owners invite people, and nobody is added without accepting.

  • New accounts wait a set number of hours before starting conversations
  • Members can block someone, or turn private messages off completely
  • Groups are capped in size, and pending invitations count toward the cap
  • Messages can be reported, and reports go to staff with permission to review them

Permissions you can actually reason about

Groups get abilities, and forums inherit them down the tree. A deny always wins, so a private forum stays private. When something looks wrong, the inspector shows exactly what one member can do in one forum, and why.

The permission rules screen: add or update a rule for a group, scope and capability, with a table of existing allow rules.
Community settings, split into focused pages: general, branding, homepage, discussion appearance, votes, email, spam prevention, rules and registration.

Forum structure

Nest categories and forums, then reorder them by dragging or with the keyboard.

Groups

Members can belong to several groups. Paid memberships add groups without touching the ones you assigned.

Moderators per forum

Assign moderators to the forums they look after, not the whole site.

Focused settings

Each area has its own page, so a change to signup rules can't knock over your branding.

Activity log

Admin changes are recorded, so you can see who changed what and when.

Last-admin protection

You can't demote, ban or delete the final administrator by accident.

Moderation without the busywork

Reports from posts and messages land in one queue. Moderators can pin, lock, move and soft-delete discussions, and restore what was deleted.

  • Post and message reports with a review queue
  • Soft delete with a Deleted posts view, so mistakes can be undone
  • Bans that take effect immediately across every page
  • Hidden discussions return "not found", not a hint that something exists

A launch you can check off

The setup guide reads your actual configuration and shows what's left: branding, email, signup rules, permissions and a test of the member journey.

  • Starter templates for interest communities, creators and product support, previewed before anything is added
  • Registration rules: open or closed signup, name length, reserved names and email-domain allow or block lists
  • Community rules with versioned acceptance at signup
  • Cloudflare Turnstile, optional, and only switched on after a successful real test
  • Email over SMTP or Resend, with credentials stored encrypted and a test that confirms the message reached an inbox

Memberships and donations, if you want them

Connect your own Stripe or PayPal account to sell recurring or one-time memberships that unlock a group, or to accept donations. It's off until you turn it on, and card details never touch your server.

Hosted checkout

Members pay on Stripe or PayPal's own pages. You never handle card numbers.

Access follows payment

A paid group lasts exactly as long as the confirmed payment. Refunds and disputes remove it.

Six currencies

USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD and NZD, with members managing their own plans.

Themes and plugins with a real contract

Extensions are built against a documented API, so they keep working across updates. The core still checks every permission, whatever a theme draws.

  • Themes override templates selectively, with child themes and compatibility warnings
  • A component showcase previews every state in light and dark before you switch
  • Plugins add routes, permissions, navigation and settings through supported hooks
  • Editor adapters let a plugin replace the post editor
  • Scaffold commands generate a working theme or plugin to start from

Fast, and careful

Forums run for years. VoltexaHub is built to stay quick on a small server and to keep members' data where it belongs.

A query budget

Every read page is measured against 50 database queries and 500 ms on a 10,000-post forum.

Background delivery

A reply to a discussion with a thousand watchers queues one job instead of a thousand emails.

Cached assets

Avatars, logos and theme files are served with long-lived caching and no session overhead.

Permission checks everywhere

Reads, writes, counts, search and notifications all go through the same rules.

Account protection

Login throttling per account and per address, and a notice to the old address when an email changes.

Headers and policy

Security headers on every page, a content security policy, and a container that runs as a non-root user.

See it for yourself.
